Mactan International Airport Food In The Boarding Area

I just recently traveled from the Cebu Mactan International Airport going on a domestic flight to Cagayan de Oro. I realized something. No matter how we tell ourselves to leave early so we could dine somewhere before going to the airport, we still fail at doing so about 50% of the time.  Airport food would then be our only option.

The problem then arises of not knowing what food stalls are in the Cebu airport since I noticed merchants change often in airports.  Airport food is more essential than we think and is crucial for our travels. We wouldn't like to get sick during a vacation or even after a vacation, when we go back to work. You don't want to blow your budget either in sometimes, so a lot of smart budgeting goes a long way.

Now we ask:
What shall I eat in the Cebu airport? What food is available in the Cebu airport? Does Cebu airport have food stalls I would like to buy food from?

Therefore, in order for me to remember and some of you out there to know, these are the merchants in the Mactan International Airport Domestic flights boarding area for a first in my series of AIRPORT FOOD.

Locals' Love Their Ngohiong And I Understand Why It Is A Must Eat In Cebu

Simply a Cebu local favorite.
Where the people go, is where affordable good food is.




Who doesn't like a good ngohiong? Why does this often get in the list of must-eats in Cebu?

Five spiced juliened jicama (a.k.a. turnip, rutabaga, or swede) rolled in a lumpia wrapper then dipped in spiced cornstarch before deep fried. YES!

Also get Cebu local longganisa, chorizo, stuffed egg, stuffed crab, local "ginabot", gizzard and liver.

Most of the food items were less than 20 PH pesos ($ 0.50) each. ;)

Dip them all in the spicy sauce and pair with pusô.

Simple. Filling (the best excuse because it is full of fiber). Affordable.

Give Me More Gibb’s Wings is a Comfort Food Haven in Cebu Philippines

I swear I do not lie my fellow munchters when I say these wings are the bomb!  So good that I do not want to remember these wings TBH every time I am not in Cebu City.

It was the last stop of the second day of the Cebu Food Crawl 2016, right after our stop in District on 53rd.  When we were told that we were to have the best chicken wings in Cebu, I remained skeptical, because there’s only a few chicken places I trust nowadays, I opened my mind to what was to come.

Streetscape in Paseo Saturnino, Banilad, Cebu, was an arcade of food places that wasn’t too crowded like a mall on a weekend, but the full parking space tells me there must be a steady clientele for this area.  Gibb’s was in the second floor.  So I entered this rustic black and red space with a glowing red-white light sign of “Gibb’s” on the wall.

Potacos (discontinued) came.  A black plate with potato chips with salsa, lettuce, cheese and more were in front of me.  Interesting and looking appetising, I waited for the other dishes.  Potato Wedges, Angel Wings, and the Cajun Hot Wings came.  Oh, yes. It looked like a mini-fiesta.  But upon seeing the saucy chicken wings on the plates, I became intrigued and started to become excited.

Time to eat!

 Poof!  The Wedges disappeared in front of me.  Cooked crispy outside and soft mushy inside, the very comforting taters was a hit. 



 The Angel Wings were the non-spicy choice of saucy chicken wings in Gibb’s.  It was sweet and I liked it.

 The Potacos were a surprise to me.  It was like eating tacos or nachos(?) but even better.  Crispy salty potato chips that were so addicting, that I found the plate staying next to me…
Potacos are nachos? or tacos? or... ah just eat! :D


as I gorged on the best sweet chilling wings I have ever tasted.  The Cajun Hot Wings, was spicy, saucy, sweet, tangy, and perfect to erase all the stress during that day.

GIBB's CAJUN HOT WINGS (YES!) 

 I immediately ordered Cajun Wings to go so I could let my partner, Egan (supertaster foodie extraordinaire), try them too.  I too secretly wished he already ate and didn’t need any so i could eat them myself. Hahaha!

It didn't stop there though because homemade Spicy Stracciatella ice cream came! Vanilla ice cream with drops of dark chocolate with a hint of heat. I was so happy I could 😭!

“I am coming back for these for sure!”

They were a blessing formed into food in Cebu.



Ahh.  I definitely recommend you try their food when in Cebu.

Travel Across Different Dishes With Your Tongue At District on 53rd inCebu Philippines

Sail away and fly to different destinations via food with District on 53rd’s menu choices of 53 dishes  inspired by food from all around the world.

Details below...


In my travels I go for food that is distinct to each culture to study the different ingredients used and taste the fusion of flavours that create certain dishes unique to my palette.  

An experience that can be so mind-blowing and eye-opening (or maybe tongue-opening?) when one discovers certain herbs when mixed with a country's specie of fruit can make all the difference to make your tongue venture into different possibilities in flavour.

District on 53rd is a restaurant that is inspired by unique food items, dishes, and drinks to specific favourite countries visited and tasted.  A wonderful concept that I myself dreamed of having (when I have my own restaurant), brought to reality.

One can let their tongue travel around the world with the menu of 53 dishes.  

For the Cebu Food Crawl, we started with Watermelon Daiquiri, and a complimentary District Sungka of Hummus Harissa (mashed chickpeas, tahini sesame paste, harissa chili pepper paste), Pesto Dip (mayonnaise, walnuts, basil pesto), Mango Chutney (ripe mango, sugar, apple cider vinegar, cumin), Tomato Salsa (tomato, bell pepper, basil, onion) to dip in with our Homemade Chips and Turmeric bread.

Followed by a lovely Porcini Fondue with Focaccia Bread (good as comfort food).  This was cheesy creamy with bits of mushroom and ham.

I had a taste of their Chinese Malay-inspired “Noodle Seafood Laksa” 24th in the 53.  If you are a fan of sour soups like the Filipino Sinigang, you will enjoy this.

Then lastly, Pistachio Lamb Shish Kebab 48th in the 53...

 nicely complimented with Lemon + Calamansi Margherita.

Overall, I found District on 53rd as a lovely place to remember certain food you have tried in different countries.  Also if you are curious about food from cuisines you have never tried before, this is a good stop.

What If You Had Trouble Choosing?
For those who crave the Filipino favourites, the lechon, adobo, and some other Filipino food are still available in the menu.  So no need to panic if the selection is too diverse for your taste.


Aside from the 53 dishes, there are also choices of sandwiches, breakfast staples, pastries, bread, and ice creams.

District on 53rd is one of the restaurants that boast of bringing in flavours from different sides of the world in the desire to please the bored palette.

If you want to be transported to different cuisines in one sitting, you now know this place.

District on 53rd is located in Cyberzone, Filinvest, Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City.  It is open from 7:00am-1:00am 7 days a week.

Shangri-la Resort and Spa Hotel in Cebu is a beautiful escape from the mundane.  This is based on my extraordinary experience. If you were spending your summer in the Philippines, this luxury spot might just be what you were looking for after visiting some of the best Philippine beaches.

It was day two in the Cebu Food Crawl 2016.  We had a tour at Profoods Corp and a short stop at Cafe Jasmin for a Cafe White.  I had a milky caffeinated cup because I didn’t sleep the night before.  I probably should’ve gotten something else with less milk.

Why The Heck Dried Philippine Mangoes When We Can Have Them Fresh

And dip in chocolate?

It's a weird fruit fiesta fiasco for someone or a wild wallpaper of a person with a sweet tooth and love for mangoes.

Dried mangoes is almost a default "tinabuan"* when visiting a destination in the Philippines, especially Cebu, because it is simply the National Fruit of the Philippines.

Nowadays, they are also available dipped in chocolate and as chewies.


Why Dried Mangoes From The Philippines?
Some may ask.  It is because the variety of mangoes mostly grown in the Philippines are carabao mangoes.  They are known around the world for its sweet and exotic taste at its ripest.

If you have tried it, you'll understand.


Unfortunately, if you wanted to bring some outside of the Philippines it isn't easy as you need authorisation papers from the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), this according to https://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/the-philippines-2/visit-the-philippines/customs-passenger-guidelines/.


Having them dried, pasteurized and packaged safely would be the easiest to transport then.  So, dried mangoes it is!

There is a Mango Flying Everywhere
Because our carabao mango is well-loved by a lot of people, not just Filipinos, there is a demand to try this product.  In fact, there are a lot of dried mangoes processed and packed by Profood International Corp for other countries such like Korea and Japan.

Go to the nearest department store and look for the Philippine section, there will be dried mangoes there and most probably they are packed from our 1st stop on our second day of the Cebu Food Crawl 2016 - Profood.

Chill in Cebu To Nice Tunes And Sizzling Food At Marco Polo Plaza Cebu

Imagine me, feeling accomplished having reached Marco Polo Plaza Cebu for the first time.  I had finally found where to chill in Cebu with nostalgic pop tunes played by the band beside the pool, and feasting on a table filled with sizzling food.  Ahh!  I love this Friday evening.

 None of the hyper self here, this time I'm just chilling in Cebu.


First Time Seeing Marco Polo Plaza Cebu
My family and I tried to find this hotel before.  It was during one Sinulog season many years ago, but we were unsuccessful.

 Fast forward to 2016, I finally conquered our Marco Polo Hotel hangup by representing my family and finally seeing it in person for the first time.  This time though, I was with bloggers from all around the Philippines for the Cebu Food Crawl 2016 food tour.

Ms Mana greeted us crawlers, as we enter the front doors.  Big crystals that make up the chandelier on the ceiling shine and sparkle as I enter this huge huge lobby.  

 Picturesque.  Classic.  Majestic.  A grand staircase carpeted red and golden yellow from top to bottom step was right beside the path to where we would dine that evening.

From the lobby we walked passed the indoor buffet at Cafe Marco and exited to the pool area where tables awaited us.  
It was a Friday evening, and we were told it is Sizzling Nights at El Viento Restaurant and Poolbar.

The outdoors was fitting as nice smelling smoke formed from our lovely sizzling plates of viands.  I favoured the savory and tender Sizzling Beef Tips with the side of Buttered Vegetables, Potato Crisps, and Mashed Potato (most especially) were delicious.  It was the first time I dipped potato crisps in mash, and it was delicious.

Refreshing Four Seasons juice was perfect for a tropical-escape-like feel while we dined beside the pool.  And after dinner, we got to listen to the live band who played songs which I found myself singing along to.  I just chilled and enjoyed.

I could see how it could really appeal to people who would want to just chill while on vacation or just taking the weekend off in Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.  I felt so comfortable.  I wanted to dip in the pool if only I had brought my swimsuit with me.

Malicious Cookies Sweet Ending
Ms Mana handed us a pack of cookies to bring home.  They were labeled “Malicious Cookies” and I must say, I was intrigued.

But know this, when I was able to taste the cookies, I immediately regretted not purchasing additional packs to take home.  Every bite has cashew, white chocolate chips, and dark chocolate chips.  Delectably sweet.  I have added that as one of my reasons to go back to Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.

Picturesque Beautiful Location By The Sea In Mactan, Cebu

Movenpick is a paradise in Cebu that I had only knew about 3 years ago, thanks to my sister’s must-visit-places research skills.  

For the many yearly visits we had to Cebu since I was little, we'd only go to the Basilica del Sto Niño, the malls, relatives’ houses, the airport, then the pier.  Aside from those stops, nada.
