Comfort Food Burgers in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines

February 11, 2019

One thing that I find myself constantly doing when I am in Cagayan de Oro is going to this joint.  Food has been consistently satisfying and remains similar in taste throughout the years. Among the food that must be tried in Cagayan de Oro, this is among the top of my list for the reason that it is very Kagay-anon in my opinion.

(This is not a sponsored post. I wish it was though. Haha!)

It is not the meatiest, but the combination of flavors is one I really like.

Sure sure! The food items are not Filipino in origin. There are no Sisig dishes (yet), nor Sinuglaw here. (If that is what you are craving, click here to be redirected.) However, we Filipinos love to eat and explore different cuisines. I connect it to how widely influenced we are by our past colonizers, we Filipinos adapt to our surroundings may it be a pop trend or a food trend. Nonetheless, this isn't some food trend that is only popular now and later dies out.

Going back to my point. I feel like this is very "Kagay-anon" in nature because the place is laidback, and the food remains good even if the prices remain student-friendly. Yup!

You see what I did there?! Uh-huh! Cagayan de Oro (CDO) is known as the "City of Golden Friendship". CDO is also known for its laidback nature. Try living here for a month and you would notice that it is relatively more relaxing to live here than in other major cities in the Philippines.

Anyway...
Enough chit-chat. I would like to introduce you to... OLD BLUE!

I rarely feature any specific food items here on my blog, but this (I MUST SAY) is an exemption. Ship them to meeeee! I miss the melted cheese and Old Blue sauce that compliments the burger! 😋

Taste Test Virgin Coconut Oil in Coffee And Why Do This

March 24, 2017

Virgin coconut oil in coffee.  Yes you read that right.

Ew you said?  Wait until you watched my video of me trying this.

In the video below, you will witness me put virgin coconut oil in my coffee and drink it.

You will see that I have instant coffee in my cup. I don't have brewed coffee. I'm not in a café or anything like that.

ProSource gave me a bunch of stuff to try out and one of the things that they shared with me is their virgin coconut oil.

I tried to look for ways to use coconut oil because actually they gave me two bottles of these. And I read that is you want to boost your energy in the morning and all throughout the day, you can add a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil into your coffee.

I've never done this before and I'll be honest I was quite hesitant but I'll take one for the team. Ha ha. And I'll tell you if it taste good or bad because honestly I'm just interested in how it would end up tasting.

Oh my gosh, it went straight into my cup.

Ok, so it's floating.
It looks like this. Looks like gobules on top of my coffee when you first pour it.

Well, it doesn't smell too weird to me because I'm actually a fan of coconut.
And, if I were to describe it plainly I would say smells like coffee with coconut sugar it.
Tira-tira. I don;t know if you actually have it. Tira-Tira but tira tira. It's pulled coconut taffy I think that is a loose description of it.  It's a Philippine delicacy.

Personally I don't like hot coffee cause I don't like being burned.
Ok, so here it goes.  This is still too hot though.  I don't like hot coffee. I don't like being burnt.

*Sips.

It doesn't taste any different.  Nope.  The coconut oil doesn't change the taste of the coffee.  Actually, it made my coffee better because to me it smells better. Well aside from the coffee smell which is fine by me. The coconut oil smell makes it better for me because I really love the smell of cooking.

Taste wise. It taste like there's coconut sugar in it or maybe it's just my senses is tricking me because I can smell the coconut in it.
Overall it's not really bad.

I was.. I was scared of doing this is it made me going like oh my god is cooking oil it's oil on my coffee. But really it's fine.. I think the idea of it is not really that strange because be put cream in our coffee and cream is also oily. In some cultures they put butter in the coffee. And I never tried that before.  But coconut oil and coffee is actually not bad ha ha.

So I guess that's one way of using your virgin coconut oil from ProSource. If you want to check their website I'll put the link in the description box below. And if you want to see more videos of me trying out coconut oil in different ways you can check MunchTrip or you can check my makeup website which I'll put the link of below, because it's not the priority in this video

Okay so this has been Shoni.  I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Thank you so much for watching my video. I hope you will watch out for more videos that I'll be posting soon.

Catch you later my fellow munchters.

Bye-bye.

Travel and Booking Hotel Rooms Made Easy For Travel Planners Thru Traveloka

February 04, 2017
I have done quite a bit of travelling and I always have extra copies printed, screenshot, and placed in a separate folder in my USB and Google Drive just to be sure.  I was quite pleased to have found an app that makes it easier.

Plus, a short review on the Mallberry Suites at the bottom of this article. ;)

It was a Saturday when my friends made a sudden decision to have an overnight stay where we all can be together.  They assigned me the task of booking hotel rooms in Cagayan de Oro because they trusted me as the "travel blogger" of the group.

Everybody knows that sleepovers with friends are sleepless nights together of course, so I knew I needed 24 hour food establishments nearby.  Almost immediately, I had a few hotels in Cagayan de Oro as options in mind. :D

I got on my phone and browsed on my App Traveloka for frequent discounted rooms in Cagayan de Oro.

Traveloka App Review

Traveloka is a very impressive phone app that I used in booking hotel rooms because I am a type of travel planner who wants to do everything efficiently.

I was able to book two rooms in Malberry Suites Business Hotel among hotels in Cagayan de Oro with ease and less time needed to search for my booking details afterwards.

A Tedious Travel Planner Like Myself Will Love This App
If there was a type of traveller I could categorize myself in, I would say, I am a “perfectionist traveller”.  I want everything ready in my travels.  Booking hotel rooms should be planned, done, printed, and photographed on my phone.

I was very impressed by how efficient the app was to make sure it kept three records of the booking immediately after confirmation in the following:
-   an easy-to-access “My Booking” button on the bottom.
  • an email with the confirmation code
  • a text sent to your contact number provided

I was a happy travel planner who didn’t need to take extra steps to keeping details of the booking because they were sent to me right away automatically.

Travelling Light And Safe By Only Using Your Traveloka Phone App
I also rely heavily on apps on my phone because it is easier to whip out the device in public compared to a tablet or a laptop.  I could look for a hotel on my phone while in a cafe sipping on some coffee, or even when I am in an airport waiting for my flight is so much more convenient.

I needed two rooms for 4 persons so to show you how I used the app, here were the steps on which I was able to book the hotel.

How To Use The Traveloka Phone App
Here is the simple menu of the Traveloka App.

All I had to do was click on the “Hotels” button.

From here, I entered the details needed — Destination, Check-in Date, Duration, Number of Guests, and Number of Rooms —  and clicked “Search”.

Scrolling down from the list of details then give me hotels in Cagayan de Oro to choose from.  I zeroed in on Malberry Suites Business Hotel.  So I clicked on the name of the hotel.

The app brought me to a page where I could see the Main Facilities offered by the hotel while the price value of the room is shown below.  I clicked on the orange button, which seemed to conveniently be the uniform color of the buttons in this app.

Browsing thru the app is made easier with the easy to understand features offered by the hotel like the Free Breakfast and Free Wifi feature which turn green when available.  Choices of the types of rooms are also easy to view by scrolling down from this point.  I then click on the orange button of the corresponding room I want to get.

From here, there are four steps I have to go thru to confirm and pay for my booking.  I simply click “I’m booking for myself” and enter “any special requests” if I preferred a non-smoking room, a room by the window, a room with 3 pillows, or any other particular needs I want to request for.

I now was brought to the page where I could review the details and double check the booking details.  Scrolling down would bring me to the “Continue to Payment” button.

This part is impressive in my opinion as it gives me many options to pay for the booking.  Nowadays, when 711 convenient stores are starting to be more common near hotels in Cagayan de Oro, the Over-the-counter option was the most attractive option.

I receive a voucher which i needed to pay for the booking..

 ...and voila!
I get an SMS, an email, and the booking is available to be viewed in the app itself.

Booking hotel rooms couldn’t be more convenient.

You Never Go Hungry Staying At Malberry Suites

When we went to the hotel to check in, I felt safe knowing that security was visible yet courteous when I entered the building.
Front Desk greeted me with a smile when I checked in and answered my every question about available facilities.
I was disappointed to know that the swimming pool (a feature marked as available in the Traveloka description) was only available if we added payment.

But this hotel did not fail me on my need to have 24 hour food establishments nearby.  There was a 711, a Yellow Cab pizza place, and McDonald's within walking distance.  Thank God!

Conclusion

The one-night stay at Mallberry Suites using the hotel booking app Traveloka was a success.

I recommend it to all who want to see discounted rates with season promos.  It also has promos for when there are holidays.

My favourite part about it has to the very thoughtful feature of immediately giving you copies of the booking on your phone, email, and the app itself.

Plus, it also helps book flights.  Genius Traveloka!

If you want to discover Cagayan de Oro, check out my other posts as well.

That's it.

On to my next munchtrip.

Bevato Egg Rolls Come Rolling In From Kenko Naicha

October 06, 2016

BEVATO Egg Rolls come in many flavours and Black Sesame is my fave!
Kenko Naicha now has food to munch on, did you not know?

To pair with Kenko Naicha’s drinks, they now have with pastas, meals, and egg rolls as well.

I came across Black Sesame Egg Rolls.  I took one roll.  I had a bite and a few pieces crumbled at the sides of my lips.  I stick out my tongue to save it from falling because it was a flavourful hallow sweet thing.

More delicate, less crunchy, these egg rolls should not be mistaken with the barquillos from the clear packs of pasalubong shops.  These egg rolls do not have polvoron either or peanut brittle in it.  This is not turrones de mani, which is also known as “Cacahuate”.

I chew some more.  The more the pieces broke apart in my mouth the more of the flavour bursted.  It delighted me and made me think “I’m glad I got that over the other flavours, because I liked it more than any other.”

The matcha-flavoured was promising but I find myself liking really strong almost grassy-like matcha like on Japanese Matcha Kitkats, so this one did not get me as mush as the black sesame did.

If not familiar with sesame (which i doubt), the nutty smell of sesame that is somewhat close to peanuts, and almonds are what greets you first.  As I munch on these brittle cigar-sized sweets the taste, reminded me of sweet black sesame Korean bread I once tasted in Missy Bon Bon.

If you want something sweet, nutty, and comforting.  A pack of BEVATO Egg Rolls are sold at Kenko Naicha and other partner "tinabu-an" shops in Cagayan de Oro.

They can be a nice appetiser, snack, or dessert.  However you want it.

Imagine this delicate delicacies on top of your ice cream?  I can.

As for their food selection, I have tried three and liked the Tomato Herb Chicken Pasta, priced at 199 PH pesos, most as it had the bit of sourness I love in Italian style pasta.

Roa Street, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro Cityand- Laguindingan Airport Boarding Area 2nd floor, Laguindingan- Bellfranz Building, Ubaldo street, Iligan

make sure to check out their food choices as well as their tea selection.

That's it.

Catch you on my next munchtrip.

Bye Bye my fellow munchters.

Sisig Is The Yin and Sinuglaw Is The Yang in Dinahs Fud Haus Cagayan de Oro

September 16, 2016
Yin and Yang combo of local favourites
This by far is the best karinderya* Sinuglaw** and Sisig I have tasted in Cagayan de Oro.

Thinking about it makes my mouth water already.  It is so so good.

I first discovered this when my Aunt Elsa shared with me that there is a karinderya where she always buys her sisig.  She also assured me that the place can be trusted with their food as she knows the owner, ms Dinah, her old friend and ex-colleague.

I was hangry -- angry plus hungry.  I rushed to 4-21.

"Conveniently situated at a corner.  Ok!"

Easy to locate with a big tarp that had the name, Dinah's Fud Haus.

Went to see the pots and pans that contained the food.  I ordered the viand that had one serving left, then my Aunt's recommendation.

"One Sinuglaw, One Sisig, Two single rice."

Sinuglaw and Rice (40 PH Pesos)
Ayayay. Creamy. Tangy. Spicy. YES!  The sinuglaw that keeps me craving for more, so beware of your diet.

Sisig and Rice (40 PH Pesos)
Woooh.  Thick-sauced savory and a bit sweet, sisig to pair is perfect.

They are like Yin and Yang, I go from one to the other.

Immediately I went from hearing heavy metal to zen music.  So much love went into the food.  And if you are lucky, ms Dinah will serve you food and even call you "anak" (term of endearment meaning "my child").  How homey.

Both meals are 40PH Pesos with viand and rice at Dinah's Eatery.

Oh, Egan and I ate at 4th-21st.  I might have forgotten to mention I was not alone though I'm sure some of you thought I ate all of the above by myself.  Huh?

4-21 Nazareth

Back to the topic, yes, that is one karinderya plus, they have branches in Tomas Saco-14 and Pabayo-Chaves (Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines), all very accessible via motorela or taxi.

Yup.  Splendid eats.

That's it.  Catch you on my next munchtrip.

Bye bye my fellow munchters.
